The winner of the Verona Internationals, Holger Rune, will meet Nole Djokovic at the US Open. This is an excerpt from’item:

Novak Djokovic, number one in the world, he met last night, after the qualifying draw -, the name of his first opponent at the US Open, tournament where he will try to make history and close with the Grand Slam.
The first round opponent is the young 18 year old Danish Holger Rune, who is one of the fittest players at the moment (albeit at a lower competitive level than the Serbian).

Rune, number one junior at the end of the seasons 2019 e 2020 and Roland Garros champion in the same age group two years ago, has strung together a series of 13 consecutive victories: has won the San Marino and Verona Challengers in the last two weeks, before winning three more US Open qualifying rounds – on a different surface – to qualify for the main draw.

Djokovic and Rune have never met, but they trained together for a full week in Monte Carlo before the clay court season, so they know each other well. At the time, it was Rune who promoted that week of training, after sending a private message to the Serbian on Instagram. Now they will face each other on one of the most important stages in the world.
